The Second Dream

I was, once again, in the "red-room at Gates-head" (Bronte 367). The musty air filled my nose as I made my way across the room. The floor boards creaked with every step I took. The moonlight floated in from the windows, past the red curtains, gliding up to the ceiling. Struck with fear, I trembled from "the secret of the red-room" (Bronte 17). A feeling of loneliness overtook me, but I was not alone. I paused in the center, underneath the high ceilings. I raised my head to see a vapor moving across the moon that resided within the ceiling. As I continued to watch, the rays of light shifted. A white human form "broke forth [sending the] clouds [aside]" (Bronte 367). The form came towards me, earthbound, "sh[aking] my spirit" (Bronte 367). As it spoke to me, coming closer, I opened my eyes "from the trance-like dream" (Bronte 368), back to reality.
